Governor Schweitzer recently gave the following speech to attendees of the Ohio Democratic Party's annual dinner. In the following video Governor Schweitzer explains how his administration dealt with racism in a state that is "93% white and 7% Indian."

Schweitzer says that "all over Montana you can walk into a bar, cafe, or even a school or courthouse and just listen for a while as people talk to each other and you will here somebody before very long say something outrageously racist about the people who have lived in Montana for 10,000 years."

Schweitzer says that the way to turn hearts is to focus on children which, he says, is why "we passed Indian education for all all. So that every child in every class in Montana will learn not just about Jefferson and Jackson and Lincoln and Roosevelt . . . they will learn about the great Indian leaders they'll learn the names of the mountains in Salish, Cheyenne, and Crow. . . we will change Montana. We will make that walk from Selma to Montgomery in Montana in the the next 15 years."
