40 year-old Leroy James McKay appeared in Missoula Justice Court Friday afternoon after having been charged with three felonies, partner or family member assault, 3rd offense, arson and criminal mischief. Missoula County Attorney Fred Van Valkenburg says McKay allegedly tried to set his wife's possessions on fire after injuring her by pulling a laptop computer away from her against her will, and cutting her hand. McKay then threw the computer, breaking the screen.

Missoula County Sheriff's Deputies investigated the incident early Friday morning and discovered burnt clothing and curtains inside the home with a strong smell of smoke. They also noted that the couple's 7 year-old daughter was asleep in another part of the home. Court records indicate that McKay's actions put his family's lives in danger. McKay was not home when deputies arrived, but was found later nearby, and appeared to be intoxicated. McKay was placed in the Missoula County Jail on $50,000 bond for the criminal mischief charge.
