Florence Man Charged With Sexual Abuse of Children and Possession of Child Pornography [AUDIO] [DOCUMENT]

A Florence man, Matthew Ray Tack, 29, was charged in Missoula Justice Court on Monday, November 4, with sexual abuse of children and possession of child pornography, after dozens of explicit images and videos of a 13 year-old girl were found on his computer.

Detective Chris Shermer with the Missoula Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force said that Tack lent his computer to a friend who found the images and contacted the police department.

"A mother on Missoula's south side found the images on Mr. Tack's computer," Shermer said. "Those images were of a young female that was naked. The images included about 10 videos and nearly 50 photographs. In one of the photos, the young girl was wearing a sweatshirt from a middle school out of Kentucky, so I was able to contact a police officer in Kentucky who actually put me in contact with the young girl and her parents. This is extremely rare, because most of the time we don't find out who these girls are."

Shermer outlined the charges against Tack, who allegedly contacted the young girl via social media.

"He's being charged with sexual abuse of children, which is kind of a catch-all for numerous kinds of internet crimes," Shermer said. "It is basically possession of child pornography, and he could also be charged with making child pornography because he asked the young girl to make these videos."

Shermer said Tack could be facing dozens of felony charges.

"Mr. Tack could be facing charges for up to 10 videos and up to 50 images," Shermer said. "However, there are instances where individuals possess thousands of images. It's up to the county attorney and Mr. Tack's attorney to decide what the charges will be."

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Shawn Thomas asked Judge Karen Orzech for a high bail, considering the serious nature of the charges.

"The state is requesting $50,000 bail," Thomas said. "Basically, his phone and Facebook records show he's been in contact with multiple underage girls, asking for sexually explicit pictures, and he even talked about meeting one of them, so we believe he does present a danger to the community."

Judge Orzech set Tack's bail at $50,000 and remanded him back to the Missoula County Jail.
