The International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 2457 Missoula Rural Fire Fighters, and the Missoula Rural Fire District will once again be trading our normal blue uniform shirts for pink ones during the entire month of October, in support of cancer awareness month.

Cancer affects hundreds of thousands of people annually. Over 1500 people die every day from cancer. IAFF Local 2457 and the Missoula Rural Fire District wish to show support for the courageous women and men battling this disease, and we hope that the community will support our efforts to support them.

In addition to raising awareness, this is also a fund raising effort. The same specially designed shirts that Missoula Rural fire fighters will wear all month are being made available to the general public. The shirts sell for $15.00 and all proceeds raised will be donated to Tough Enough to Wear Pink Montana. Tough Enough to Wear Pink of Montana is dedicated to providing funding for breast cancer awareness, education, screening, support and further diagnosis for Montana women and men. One of the primary goals of Tough Enough to Wear Pink Montana, is to ensure that money raised in a community stays in that community.

The shirts can be purchased at MRFD Fire Station #1, 2521 South Avenue West, Missoula. People are encouraged to stop in and purchase shirts, both women’s and men’s styles are available. You can also call Station 1 at 549-6172. Local businesses who wish to purchase shirts for their employees are encouraged to call ahead to place an order.

Local Union President Ron Lubke
