Fire crews are responding to a 40 to 50 acre fire burning not far from Ch-Paa-Qn peak, and several miles from Frenchtown Pond. Spokesman for the Lolo National Forest Boyd Hartwig says the Butler Fire is burning in very rugged terrain and is not threatening any structures or homes.

Hartwig says two Hot-Shot teams are on their way to the area to evaluate firefighting options, a helicopter is dropping water on the fire and a plane with retardant may be ordered. Hartwig also says there is a similar sized fire burning about 40 miles from the Clearwater Junction in the Skapegoat Wilderness. He says both fires are lightning-caused.
