The Missoula Police Department has confirmed that Michel Jo Colville has died as a result of injuries received in Friday afternoon's avalanche.

Public Information Officer Travis Welsh issued a statement on Monday, March 3, stating.

"We are saddened to report that the adult female rescued in the avalanche has succumbed her to her injuries and is deceased."

Welsh also addressed the issue of the snowboarder who was responsible for the avalanche.

"The Missoula Police Department can confirm that snow enthusiasts have been interviewed regarding the cause of the avalanche. There are currently no charges pending, however detectives will confer with the appropriate prosecuting attorney’s Office regarding the results of the investigation and any potential criminal culpability."

Ms. Colville, the wife of retired University of Montana Professor Fred Allendorf, was taken to St. Patrick Hospital after being rescued from the avalanche that occurred on Friday, February 28, in critical condition. Mr. Allendorf's condition was listed as serious, but stable, and that eight year-old Phoenix Scoles was in fair condition on Sunday, according to St. Patrick Hospital Public Affairs Director Jo Ann Hoven.

Bank accounts to benefit the two families have been established, and can be accessed here.
