A driver from Missoula discovered a fatal accident on Sunday afternoon on Highway 200 near Clearwater Junction.

The driver contacted the Montana Highway Patrol at Clearwater Junction and led Trooper Luke Berson to the scene of the fatal accident. Berson said the accident occurred about three miles east of the junction of Highways 200 and 83, near the Missoula County line.

"It was a fatal accident, "Berson said. "When I got on the scene, it appeared that a pickup truck hauling a Jeep on a car dolly eastbound on Highway 200. We're estimating that sometime Saturday night when the roads were probably icy."

Berson described the accident scene.

"The driver was coming around a right hand curve and it appears he lost control, and both vehicles ended up going over the guardrail and rolling down the hillside," he said. "They ended up on an old railroad bed just above the Blackfoot River, The deceased male was found on the scene, he was approximately 55 years old."

Both vehicles had license plates indicating they were from the Great Falls area. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Berson said cleanup of the accident scene was still underway at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. He said Highway 200 was not blocked due to the fatal accident.

The investigation into the accident continues by the Montana Highway Patrol,
