As part of the national "Click It or Ticket" campaign, Missoula police will be adding at least two extra patrols every day from May 21st through June 4th. Missoula Police Sergent Greg Amundsen says the patrols will "essentially normal traffic enforcement but really with a sharper, keen eye towards weather or not a person is wearing their seat belt." The message of seat belt safety carries a extra weight in Montana where nearly 80% of all highway fatalities are due to unrestrained riders being ejected from their vehicles. Another staggering seat belt statistic is that 75% of rollovers would not result in death if riders are using seat belts. The extra seat belt patrols are funded by the Montana Department of Transportation's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.
