Eureka Basketball Bus Hits Two Horses on Hwy 93

KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — A school bus carrying the Eureka girls’ basketball team struck two horses on U.S. Highway 93 southeast of Eureka.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Neil Durham says the bus was severely damaged and driver Sue Utter was pinned in her seat, but the occupants suffered only minor injuries in the crash shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday.
Durham says the bus was traveling at highway speeds as the team returned from a game in Bigfork.
He says others on the bus were hit by glass and “biological debris from the horses” but none of the players was injured. Both horses died.
The Daily Inter Lake reports a Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy and a Eureka police officer were investigating a report of horses on the highway at the time of the collision.
