At 11:25 a.m. today, August 5, crews from the Missoula Fire Department responded to a house fire on Eaton Street where smoke was billowing from all sides of the property.

"The fire was in the basement and we had a hard time getting down into where the fire started, with all of the different avenues of travel inside the structure," said Missoula Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Brandt. "The structure was also under construction at the time. There was significant damage to the structure and all the contents inside."

Brandt estimated the cost of the damage at around $85,000 and said that all of the occupants were out of the building when fire crews arrived.

Investigators are still trying to discern what started the blaze.
