A fire that was called in to 9-1-1 just after midnight on Sunday morning, caused over $75,000 in damage to one unit of a four-plex , and sent the occupant of the apartment to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Captain Rick Pechta with the Missoula City Fire department said the fire heavily damaged a multi-unit complex at 712 South 1st Street.

"The call came in just after midnight," Pechta said. "We sent three engine companies, a truck company, Battalion Chief and Fire inspectors to the location. City Police units and an ambulance from Missoula Emergency Service also responded. On arrival the first engine companies found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of an apartment complex. Crews were able to contain the fire to the apartment of origin. Minor smoke and water damage were sustained by the other three apartments."

Pechta said the fire sent one resident to the hospital.

"The occupant of the affected apartment was transported to St. Patrick Hospital with minor injuries and smoke inhalation. None of the occupants of the other three apartments or the emergency personnel were injured," Pechta said. "The fire is still under investigation, and the damage is estimated at over $75,000."

The Red Cross also responded, and was able to provide assistance for some of the displaced occupants. Northwestern Energy secured all the electrical hazards to the building.
