Early on Thanksgiving week, a dog owner discovered that his yellow lab, Monte, had been caught in an animal foot-hold trap near the Florence bridge fishing access site.

Fish, wildlife and parks spokeswoman Vivica Crowser says that “in this situation the trapper was illegally trapping in a closed area and so Fish Wildlife and Parks has cited the trapper. It’s in the court system now and the fine or other punishment  will be determined by the judge.”

Monte was freed by his owner and taken to the vet where it is recovering.
