Fuel prices in Montana are starting to shed some cents, which according to Petroleum Analyst Will Speer is something the state hasn’t seen in awhile.

"A gallon of gas is about $2.82,” Speer said. ”The last time that Montana has seen a decrease in prices was since April of this year. It's been a long time coming but it's finally good news for motorists in Montana."

Diesel is now cheaper than regular unleaded in Montana, Speer says this breaks a multi-year trend.

"The price of diesel is now tracking at $2.78," Speer said. "The last time Montana saw the price inverse like that was 2009 on September 1st where a gallon of gas costs $2.71 and diesel got down to $2.67."

Speer says the drop in diesel prices is due to a drop in demand from the agriculture sector. Montana gas prices are about 77 cents cheaper than they were a year ago.
