U.S. Rep. Steve Daines' campaign says the Republican has raised more than $1.2 million so far this year in his Senate run.

Campaign officials said Friday the amount raised by Daines in the first three months of 2014 is slightly more than the record amount raised by U.S. Sen. Jon Tester during the same period two years ago.

It also outpaces the contributions to Daines' likely Democratic opponent, Sen. John Walsh, who saw a surge in fundraising last quarter when he was appointed to serve the rest of Max Baucus' term.

Walsh raised about $946,000 for the period. Neither Walsh's nor Daines' primary opponents have released their fundraising figures.

Combined with last year's fundraising, the Daines campaign has $2.2 million on hand, while Walsh has about $700,000 in the bank.
