Crews Kept Busy with Multiple Weekend House and Car Fires

The Missoula Fire Department responded Saturday night and Sunday morning to multiple fire calls

Battalion Chief Bill Bennett said the first fire was a fully-involved single family home at 1945 Strand.

“Two of the major events were a structure fire on Saturday night that came in at about 11:00 p.m.and then another structure fire early this (Sunday) morning somewhere around 7:00 a.m.,” said Bennett. “Those fires kept crews very busy and thankfully there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians that I’m aware of for either of those events.”

The second fire was a fully involved passenger vehicle that had been abandoned earlier in the evening near Linda Vista Blvd and Christian Drive. This call was received just after midnight.

“Right after the structure fire, when we were releasing the initial units after the first structure fire was knocked down, we received a report of a full-involved car fire in the Miller Creek area,” he said. “We went straight from a house fire to a car fire. In between that and the early morning house fire, we had a gas smell inside a building downtown, so that kept crews on the move all night long.”

One engine, with the assistance of a Missoula Rural Fire Department engine was able to quickly extinguish the car fire but the vehicle was a total loss.

The third response was a structure fire involving multiple units of the Cambria Apartments in the Sawmill District. This fire was reported at about 7:30 a.m.

All the fires remain under investigation, however, none appear to be related.
