Committee has 4 options to replace Confederate Foundation

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A community group in Helena has unveiled four possible designs to replace a Confederate memorial fountain that was removed from a city park last year amid outcry after a racially-motived shooting at a black church in South Carolina and a deadly white supremacist rally in Virginia.

Ron Waterman, leader of the Equity Fountain Project, says the organization sought a new piece of public art that would showcase the core values of equality, diversity, tolerance, service, peace and justice.

Committee members chose four finalists. Their designs are on display at the Holter Museum of Art and organizers are asking city residents to weigh in.

The Equity Fountain Project has raised $65,000 of the $100,000 it needs to pay for the new art piece and provide a maintenance fund.
