On Monday, October 21, mail-in ballots for Missoula’s municipal election were sent out to registered voters.

“The ballots went out today, and they are for the Missoula Urban Transportation District and the city election,” said Chief Deputy of the Elections and Recording Office Rebecca Connors. “Voters who reside within the city limits and in the Urban Transportation District will be seeing ballots headed their way. They are due back by Tuesday, November 5 by 8 p.m.”

The ballots vary based on location from ward to ward in Missoula.

“Individuals within the city will possibly see the Urban Transportation District, depending upon where they live,” Connors said. “They will also see city-wide races that include the mayor’s race, their [city] council race, and a city judge race, as well.”

The Urban Transportation District mill levy request is for $1.7 million dollars per year to improve service by Mountain Line, Missoula’s mass-transit system. If approved, the mill levy would increase taxes on a $200,000 Missoula home by $38 per year.

In the race for mayor, incumbent Jon Engen is running against political newcomers Peggy Cain, Michael Hyde and Dean McCollom. City council seats are up for grabs in all six wards, and in the race for city judge the candidates are Kathleen Jenks, Mark McClaverty and Leta Womack.

Ballots can be mailed, or dropped off in person at the Missoula County Courthouse, or at the election office at the Missoula County fairgrounds.
