The Reynolds Creek fire in Glacier National Park isn’t the only big blaze that started on Tuesday. The Cabin Gulch Fire south east of Helena is now the third largest fire in Montana and Fire Information Officer Asano Otsu says it initially led to evacuations.

"Cabin Gulch Fire was reported approximately 14 miles east of Townsend in Deep Creek Drainage north of Highway 12 on July 21," Otsu said. "It's approximately 1,600 acres."

On Wednesday night, cooler temperatures helped firefighters make headway on the blaze, Otsu says they are hoping for a little more rain.

"So we're hoping that the rain and the cooler weather will help with firefighter efforts towards containment," Otsu said. "There were about 40 houses that were under evacuation. That was ordered by the Broadwater Sheriffs order. But that order has been lifted and residents are allowed to go home."

So far, no one has been injured by the Cabin Gulch fire, and four helicopters and three firefighting agencies have been able to bring the fire to 15 percent containment.
