BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — Butte High School boys' basketball coach Jim Konen has resigned after two seasons.

Konen tells the Montana Standard that he had promised school officials that he would coach for two years and he gave them two years.

Butte High activities director Chuck Merrifield says he hopes to fill the position by the end of the school year.

Konen was a longtime assistant coach before he reluctantly replaced John Thatcher in 2010. He was an assistant for the Montana Tech football team at the time

The Konen-led Bulldogs went 8-34 and missed the state tournament both years.
