A 29-year-old man accused of attempted rape says he's suffered from panic attacks and depression while waiting for his case to go to trial.

Kevin Briggs testified on Friday as part of his motion to have the rape case dismissed, arguing that he has not been given a speedy trial.

He says he's been attacked by other inmates and tried to kill himself while at the Gallatin County jail.

Briggs is scheduled to go to trial next month on charges that he assaulted, drugged and tried to rape a woman in 2014.

Gallatin County Attorney Marty Lambert argued that Briggs has had a number of disciplinary issues in jail and that at least one suicide attempt was an "attention getting action."

The judge will make a decision on Briggs' request at the end of the month.
