BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Carbon County authorities say the body of a hiker who had been missing for nearly two weeks was found in Custer National Forest.

Sheriff Josh McQuillan says 46-year-old Steven James Herman was found dead Saturday near Elk Lake west of Red Lodge.

Herman last contacted his family on May 18. The Billings Gazette (http://bit.ly/1I4Nd4A ) reports his van was found at the East Rosebud Trailhead three days later.

Rescue teams used horses to remove the remains on Sunday.

McQuillan says an autopsy will be performed Monday to determine Herman's cause of death.
