The Stephens Creek Facility reached it’s capacity of bison in Yellowstone National Park last week.  State and wildlife officials say they plan to start pushing hundreds of bison back into Yellowstone this week to make way for cattle to graze on Montana’s surrounding lands. There is enough green-up  in the lower elevation areas of the park for the bison to be released from the facility. Park Spokesman Al Nash says they started releasing the bison, in small groups, over the weekend.

A helicopter is scheduled to assist with the effort tomorrow  in the West Yellowstone area. Nash says as long as weather conditions allow they will continue to release small amounts of bison until the Stephens Creek Facility is empty.
