In part because of the rain, which has caused rising water levels, resulting in  economic distress in the Big Sky Country, Montana Senator Max Baucus co-wrote a bill which increases federal support for communities under severe economic distress, like those ravaged by recent flooding. Senator Baucus says a key feature of the bill is an increased federal share for areas that demonstrate unusually severe economic distress.

In addition to increasing disaster assistance, Baucus' bill reauthorizes the economic development administration, the only federal agency dedicated to job creation, for an additional five years.
