In a 70 – 30 vote, the Senate passed the Agriculture, Commerce/Justice/Science and Transportation Appropriations bill which eliminates the ban on horse slaughter. Senator Max Baucus says “In Montana, we’ve seen some sad cases of horse abandonment and neglect as owners struggle in this tough economy.  Now we can fight to revive the jobs shipped to Canada and Mexico as a result of this ban along with making sure injured and sick horses are not abandoned or subject to inhumane treatment,”

After passing in the House earlier this week, the bill will become law following the President’s signature.
