The 41 Complex of forest fires in the Sapphire Mountains east of Hamilton is mainly the Up Top Fire, which has now cross Skalkaho Highway on its way south. Of the total 3,700 acres, the Up Top Fire is 3,627 acres, while the 41 Fire is 105 acres and is 90 percent contained, according to Public Affairs Officer Tod McKay
Lightning has caused at least nine new forest fires on the Bitterroot National Forest, according to Information Officer Tod McKay. The slow-moving storms started Sunday evening.
Four fires are burning east of Hamilton in the Sapphire Mountains on the Darby Ranger District and five smaller fires are burning up the West Fork on the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness
The Ravalli County Sheriff's Office has been notifying about 50 residences in the West Fork drainage that they are under Stage 1 Evacuation orders because of the 21,000 acre Saddle Fire. Stage 1 is a warning to homeowners to prepare to leave as quickly as possible should an evacuation be necessary
Hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage resulted from vandalism in Hamilton early Wednesday morning. Hamilton Police Chief Ryan Oster said the most damage was from a garage fire in an alley at the Jesse Casterson home on South 6th Street. The fire at about 5:20 Wednesday morning destroyed the garage and a VW car, along with significant heat damage to the nearby house, and neighbors’ properties in the alley.
