24 year-old Michael Vance is in the Missoula County Jail on charges of attempted deliberate homicide and felony aggravated assault after allegedly pulling a gun and trying to shoot the bouncer at a local bar, who then stabbed the suspect in self defense.

Court documents indicate that Vance got into an altercation with the bouncer at The Bodega in downtown Missoula on the night of May 25. After the bouncer and another employee forcibly removed Vance from the premises, he returned with a handgun and attempted to shoot the bouncer. As the bouncer reached for the gun, he stabbed Vance in the abdomen with his knife,

Vance was eventually apprehended near the Missoula Parking garage and taken into custody, where it was reported that he had blood on his shirt and a stab wound to the abdomen. He was transported to St. Patrick Hospital where he was treated.

Vance appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Monday afternoon, and was charged with attempted deliberate homicide and aggravated assault. Bail was set at $75,000, consecutive with a $20,000 warrant for aggravated assault, for a total of $95,000 bail.

Missoula Police dispatchers said Vance was wanted on an active warrant for assault with a weapon.
