Construction has started on the Arthur Avenue project. It will bring improvements for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to the intersections of Arthur and Maurice Avenues and Fifth and Sixth streets near the U of M campus. During construction, intersections will be open to one through lane in both directions at most times with no detours, with minor exceptions during storm drain work. Both lanes will be open nights and weekends.  Project Coordinator Gregg Wood says this is primarily a safety project.

Wood says they will be working hard to get the project done before school starts this fall. There will be an informational meeting about what to expect during construction, tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. in room 332 of the University Center. Plans will be on display and staff members will be on hand to answer any questions.
