A popular hair straightening product known as Brazilian Blowout was the subject of a recent lawsuit in California. The case resulted in a settlement that caused the manufacturer of Brazilian Blowout to change the labeling on two formulations of the product and pay $600,000.00 in fines and penalties for mislabeling. The labels will now reveal that Formaldehyde, a carcinogen, is present in the product. Director of Science and Research with Women's Voices of the Earth, explains how her Missoula organization heard about the problem with Brazilian Blowout and got involved.

Brazilian Blowout products have been banned in Canada for over a year now, and are just one example of many hair products that use formaldehyde.
