The annual Heart Expo is this Saturday at St. Patrick Hospital.

Cardiologist Dr. Michael Reed with the International Heart Institute at Providence St.Patrick Hospital said the event begins early at 7 a.m.

"It's a public event with free admission," Dr. Reed said. "People can get their cholesterol and blood sugar checked, they can get their prostate checked, and there will be information booths and refreshments. There will also be several presentations by our local cardiologists here at St. Pat's."

Dr. Reed said some of the tests requre a small fee.

"You need five dollars to get your cholesterol and glucose checked," he said. "It's $10 to check your prostate and $10 to check your thyroid. Those are all blood tests."

Some of the tests require fasting for eight to 12 hours before drawing blood.

Dr. Reed said the event begins at 7 a.m. sharp in the Broadway building at St. Pat's, but many arrive early. The Heart Expo will end at 12 noon.
