Despite a nationwide shortage of rifle and pistol ammunition, Bob Ward's Sports and Outdoors will hold their annual Shooters Weekend in Missoula and Butte, August 2nd and 3rd.

Marketing Manager Ryan Corwin said the event, a fundraiser for a group called Operation Valor, will go on as scheduled.

"The 11th annual Shooters Weekend is this Saturday and Sunday, August 2nd and 3rd," Corwin said. "On Saturday, it will be held at the Deer Creek Shooting Range just outside Missoula, and on Sunday, the event will move to the Rocker Gun Range near Butte, and all of the proceeds benefit Operation Valor. They are an independent non-profit group that raises funds to take veterans on different activities, whether it be rafting down the Lochsa, or taking them out on hunting trips, or other extreme sports."

Corwin said the company has decided to go ahead with the event, even though there is a nationwide ammunition shortage.

"This year has been absolutely unprecedented in the shortage of ammunition we've experienced," he said. "It's almost impossible to get some calibers of ammunition out there. However, we felt it was more important to give back to an organization like Operation Valor than to preserve ammunition to sell on our shelves."

Corwin said Bob Ward's will provide all the weapons and ammunition, and asks that no one bring their own firearms to the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. There is no charge for spectators, but there is a charge to demo and shoot the weapons.
