Update: The Montana Department of Justice has received word from tribal authorities that missing 14-year-old Mariah Eileen Akeen has been found safe. Tribal authorities referred further questions to a bureau of Indian Affairs official in Washington D.C. Further details behind the disappearance and discovery of Akeen have not been released.

Montana's Department of Justice has issued an Amber Alert for a 14-year-old Native American girl believed to have been abducted by a 19-year-old man.

Mariah Eileen Akeen has not been seen or heard from since about 2 a.m. Wednesday, after an incident in Lame Deer, east of Billings.

The fact the state issued an Amber Alert means officials are extremely worried about the girl's safety.

Akeen was believed to be abducted by Zachary Whiteman, in a stolen tan 2004 Ford F150 pickup with no license plates.

The incident occurred during a traffic stop.

An official from the Bureau of Indian Affairs told us that there were five people in the pickup truck. Two were arrested and one was detained, when Whiteman allegedly jumped from the back seat into the driver's seat and took off with Akeen in the vehicle.

The two could be in the Ashland area.

If anyone has information they are urged to call Northern Cheyenne Law Enforcement at (406) 477-6288.
