Alleged Christmas Night Brooks Street Motel Robber Appears in Court [DOCUMENT]

Dustin Michael Cook, 24, was arrested on December 27, two days after allegedly holding up the Brooks Street Motor Inn on Christmas night.

According to court documents Cook had been an employee at the motel for a brief time in September of 2013. A police officer spoke with the front desk attendant after the robbery, who said the defendant pointed a black handgun at him and demanded money from the motel's lock box. The attendant described the suspect as wearing camouflage print clothing, a black ski mask and white gloves.

Court documents indicate that a white Chevy Suburban was seen on the motel's surveillance video, and that one of the employees recognized it as belonging to the suspect. He also said the suspect had showed off the gun and the camouflage clothing. Cook was arrested and told detectives he committed the robbery and took the money.

Cook appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Monday, December 30, before substitute Justice of the Peace Suzanne Geer.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Jessica Finley said Cook poses a threat to the public for the robbery, as well as being a fugitive wanted out of state.

"Mr. Cook currently has a $25,000 warrant out of Oklahoma for burglary," Finley said. "He recently moved to Missoula and he has no other ties to Montana that the state is aware of. Considering the facts alleged, it's the state's opinion that Mr. Cook poses a threat to the community, and is requesting that bail be set at $50,000."

Cook told the judge it did not matter how high the bail was set.

"I'm not even going to try to make bond," Cook said. "I'm going to use this time to try and better my life. I'm going to try to get into some kind of program or treatment, so I'm not even going to attempt to make bail."

Judge Geer set bail for Cook at $25,000, and remanded him back to the Missoula County jail.
