A Tiny Butterfly – Bitterroot Outdoor Journal

In this week's Bitterroot Outdoor Journal, resident nature guy Bob Danley wants you to look closely for a little butterfly called the Juniper Hairstreak. Just as its name suggests, you might find it near your lawn planting of junipers. It's green with long tails behind its main wings. Other butterflies you can see during sunny days are Swallowtails, Elfins and one called the Snowberry Checkerspot (found in forest openings).

Bitterroots are starting to bloom, so check out your favorite "secret" site this week. Also, The Ravalli County Museum has its annual Bitterroot Day coming June 9th in Hamilton. Also visible right now are Springbeauty flowers (see photo below), which were seen recently at Packer Meadows. Bob said that it might be too early set for Camas, but it won't be long. What you can see is lots of that red Paintbrush, blue Lupine and white Mitrewort.
