‘Tis the season for gathering with friends and family and often drinking can be involved. But just in case you forgot… Missoula’s Social Host Ordinance that was sponsored by city Councilor Dave Strohmaier was enacted on April 18th this year. The purpose is to curb underage drinking and penalize those who host underage parties. Missoula Police Department traffic Sgt. Greg Amundsen details the punishment for violating the ordinance.

 

Missoula Municipal Court records state that There were 914 MIP citations in 2009. Studies show that the most frequent sources of alcohol for underage drinkers are family members, other adults, and accessibility at private residences.
