Glacier National Park officials are asking the public to comment on ideas they are developing to ease congestion on the Going-to-the-Sun Road.

The National Park Service's preliminary proposals include timed vehicle entries or reservations to reduce the number of private vehicles on the popular roadway at one time.

There are a total of five preliminary alternatives that the park service has released for public comment by June 5. The other ideas include requiring permits for day hikes, building more parking areas and expanding or discontinuing the park's free shuttle service.

The proposals will be further developed in a draft plan scheduled to be released this fall. A final decision is not expected to be made before 2017.
