The Missoula Marathon, recently praised by Runner's World magazine as the best marathon in America, may have more security after the fatal bombings Monday afternoon at the Boston Marathon.

Missoula Police Chief Mark Muir said Monday afternoon that his department has primarily been involved with traffic control during the recent Missoula Marathons, but that could change this year after today's bombing.

"It's certainly possible that depending upon the outcome of investigations, and as more information is garnered with respect to the threat here and the bombing, we'll certainly be cognizant and alert to the possibility that there may be other forms of security that would be necessary," Muir said.

The upcoming Missoula Marathon and half-marathon will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013. The half-marathon will begin at 6 a.m. on Blue Mountain Road, while the full marathon will begin at 6 a.m. in Frenchtown.
