Eight-year-old Phoenix Scoles, the youngest survivor of the Missoula avalanche, made an appearance with his family on The Today Show, this morning, March 7.

Phoenix and his older sister Coral Scoles-Coburn described the moments before the avalanche overtook them, as well as their efforts to survive after being overwhelmed by  the snow.

Phoenix and Coral's struggle is compounded by the horror of their the parents, who  discuss what it was like to watch their children get hit by the disaster.

In the background to the story of survival is the story of how Missoula rallied to help the family by rushing into the snow to help dig out the survivors.
