$25,000 Bail For Missoula Man in High Speed Chase – Also Fled From Officers On Foot – Persistent Felony Offender

MCSO
Jason Schilling

On Monday, 32 year-old Jason Schilling appeared via video from the Missoula County Jail on two felonies and three misdemeanors after being high on meth during a high speed car chase and fleeing from officers on foot.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Mark Handelman asked substitute Justice of the Peace Suzanne Geer for $50,000 bail, due to the danger that Schilling posed to drivers during last week’s high speed chase.

“The defendant led officers on a high speed chase through town that reached speeds of up to 70 miles per hour in a residential area, while passing other vehicles by driving in the oncoming lanes of traffic,” Handel man said. “The defendant then initiated a foot pursuit that only ended when the defendant slipped on some wet grass.”

Handelman said Schilling was using drugs at the time of the incident.

“Marijuana and a used needle were found on the defendant,” he continued. “The defendant admitted that he had just shot up with meth and that’s why he was acting the way he did. He currently has an active $25,000 warrant in district court on a felony theft charge and was supposed to be headed to trial. Moreover, the defendant was just sentenced a few months ago in Washington State for felony auto theft and received a 16 month sentence to the department of corrections. He has multiple felony convictions and is now considered a persistent felony offender.”

Judge Geer set bail at $25,000 to run concurrently with the $25,000 warrant out of district court, and returned Schilling to the Missoula County Jail.
