2000 Lightning Strikes, No New Fires..Yet
The National Weather Service reported over 2000 lightning strikes in western Montana Wednesday and Wednesday night, and with lightning, comes the risk of wildfire. I spoke with Public Information Officer for the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Paula Short on Thursday afternoon about the possibility of fires from all that lightning. That interview is attached.
Short says there is still plenty of moisture inhibiting the spread of fire, but that will change as temperatures rise through the summer.
